The second point which is necessary regarding video game designer is that you should have problem solving technique. Many problems arise during coding a gaming program. If you are good at problem solving then you will be very handy for the team. The problem might range from collision detection to making things look proper.

Lastly they are looking for someone who can do the job at very torrid pace. Yes you are required to be patient but you should be efficient as well.

Get some training:

Apart from the graduation degree you are also required to do some training. You should know how to work with video game development software. The software like DirectX SDK from Microsoft is a perfect example. If you have experience working with this software then you will really have an edge over other applicants.
